As a leading Melamine (Micronized) supplier, we deliver high-quality products across diverse grades to meet evolving needs, empowering global customers with safe, efficient, and compliant chemical solutions.
What are the requirements for the ultra-fine process when preparing Melamine (Micronized)?
This product is made of industrial-grade melamine with a purity of 99% as the raw material. It is first passed through a vibrating screen (80 mesh) to remove large particle impurities and then put into the QLM-100 air flow mill. During the crushing, nitrogen with a purity of 99.9% is introduced, the pressure is stabilized at 0.7MPa, the speed of the grading wheel is accurately controlled at 3000 rpm, and the crushing effect is ensured by adjusting the feed rate (50kg/h). Cooling water is passed through the equipment jacket to keep the crushing chamber temperature <60℃ to prevent melamine from melting due to heat (melting point 354℃) and causing particle agglomeration. For example, cold water is needed to cool down jade to obtain fine powder. According to the laser particle size analyzer, the finished product has a particle size of D50=5μm, D90=10μm, a particle size distribution span of <1.5, and a specific surface area of 10m²/g, which is 5 times larger than ordinary melamine (D50=50μm). Its bulk density is 0.45g/cm³, its fluidity is good, and its repose angle is 35°. It is an ideal material for flame retardant coatings and adhesives, and can be evenly dispersed in various substrates.
What is the application of Melamine (Micronized) in coatings?
This product is added to alkyd resin coatings at a dosage of 20%, and is put into a sand mill together with titanium dioxide, thickener and other additives. It is ground for 30 minutes until the fineness reaches less than 50μm. The resulting coating is scraped and coated with a coater to form a film, and the surface is smooth and has no granular feeling. The combustion performance test shows that the vertical combustion self-extinguishing time of the coating with a dry film thickness of 30μm is 2 seconds, and the smoke density rating (SDR) is 40, which is 50% lower than the 80 without addition, and no toxic gas is released. In water-based latex paint, the addition amount is 25%, and the high-speed disperser (1500 rpm) is dispersed for 20 minutes. The coating is stored for 30 days without sedimentation and stratification, and the viscosity change rate is less than 5%. After the coating is dried (25℃, relative humidity 60%, 48 hours), the pencil hardness reaches 2H, the adhesion is level 1 after the cross-cut test, and the scrubbing resistance reaches 300 times without bottom exposure. It has good compatibility with coating resins. The ammonia released during combustion can dilute the oxygen concentration. At the same time, the molten layer formed by self-decomposition covers the substrate. The dual effect achieves flame retardancy, so it is suitable for furniture paints, building interior wall coatings, etc., with both decorative and fire-retardant properties.
What is the difference between Melamine (Micronized) and ordinary melamine?
Compared with ordinary industrial-grade melamine (particle size 50μm), Melamine (Micronized) has significantly improved dispersion efficiency in coating systems, shortening the time to achieve the same dispersion effect by 60%, and can be evenly distributed without high-speed shearing (>3000 rpm), reducing the breakage of resin molecular chains. In urea-formaldehyde resin adhesives, the shear strength of the cured adhesive layer reaches 8MPa when the addition amount is 15%, which is 15 percentage points higher than the 6.5MPa retention rate of ordinary melamine, because the ultrafine particles can fill the gap between the adhesive and the wood interface and enhance the interface bonding force. In terms of flame retardant efficiency, at the same addition amount, the material oxygen index is 2-3 percentage points higher than that of ordinary melamine. Due to the large specific surface area, the flame retardant components are released more quickly when heated, which can inhibit the combustion reaction faster. Although ultrafine processing increases the cost by 20%, the product price in high-end coatings and adhesives can be increased by 30%, and the qualified rate of finished products is increased by 15%, with significant comprehensive economic benefits, which is suitable for fields with strict performance requirements.
What is the thermal stability of Melamine (Micronized)?
According to the test of synchronous thermal analyzer, Melamine (Micronized) has no obvious weight loss below 300℃ in nitrogen atmosphere, and begins to decompose slowly at 320℃. The temperature of 5% weight loss is 340℃, which is 10℃ higher than ordinary melamine, indicating that it has better heat resistance and processing performance. During the drying process of alkyd resin coating (180℃, 30 minutes), the flame retardant retention rate reached 98% through thermogravimetric analysis, which is much higher than the 90% of ordinary melamine, reducing the volatilization loss during high-temperature processing. It was placed in a 250℃ oven for 7 consecutive days. After taking it out, the whiteness value was 92, which was only 3% lower than the initial value of 95, without yellowing, while the whiteness of ordinary melamine dropped to 85, showing obvious discoloration. After the surface of its ultrafine particles is treated, the intermolecular force is enhanced, and the resistance to thermal oxidation aging is improved. Therefore, it is suitable for systems such as automotive topcoats and high-temperature drying coatings. It can maintain stable performance during processing and use, and does not affect the appearance quality of the product.
What should be paid attention to the storage and safety of Melamine (Micronized)?
This product is packaged in aluminum foil vacuum bags, 10kg per bag, with built-in silica gel desiccant to prevent moisture absorption and agglomeration, and covered with corrugated paper boxes for shockproof. Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse, the ambient temperature is less than 30℃, away from heat sources and open flames, and isolated from strong acids such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid (spacing ≥3m) to prevent contact reactions from generating toxic cyanide gas. Due to the ultrafine particle size (D50=5μm), dust is easily inhaled into the lungs. The processing workshop needs to install a central dust removal system (air volume 2000m³/h), the dust concentration in the work area is controlled to be less than 5mg/m³, and operators need to wear KN95 dust masks and goggles. The lower explosion limit of its dust is 150g/m³, which is higher than ordinary dust and relatively safe, but it is still necessary to ensure that the equipment is grounded and avoid static sparks. If it accidentally contacts the skin, rinse it with clean water. It is non-corrosive; if it enters the eyes, rinse it immediately with running water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention. There is no open flame when it burns, only decomposition and volatilization occurs, releasing ammonia and carbon dioxide, so the storage safety is relatively high.
