As a leading Sodium Tripolyphosphate Industrial Grade STPP supplier, we deliver high-quality products across diverse grades to meet evolving needs, empowering global customers with safe, efficient, and compliant chemical solutions.
What raw materials does Sodium Tripolyphosphate Industrial Grade STPP use?
This product is made of sodium dihydrogen phosphate and disodium hydrogen phosphate. Mix the two materials in proportion, place them in a refractory brick kiln, and heat them with charcoal fire. The initial temperature is 300 degrees to evaporate the water, and then rise to 550 degrees to melt and polymerize the two materials for three hours. During this time, use a shovel to stir the materials so that they are evenly heated. When the color turns pure white, take them out and spread them on a stone slab to cool. After they solidify into blocks, they are broken and ground into fine powder to obtain Sodium Tripolyphosphate Industrial Grade STPP. The method is similar to frying tea cakes. The ratio and the temperature must be coordinated. If the ratio is not right, the chain will be short, and if the temperature is too high, the color will change, which is not a good product.
What is the appearance of Sodium Tripolyphosphate Industrial Grade STPP?
It mostly appears as white particles or powder, which is hard and brittle, and can be easily turned into fine powder by kneading. It is pure white without impurities, and the particles are uniform with little broken powder. It is good at absorbing moisture. If placed in a wetland for five days, it will clump. Therefore, it needs to be strictly protected from moisture. It is easily soluble in water. The aqueous solution is alkaline with a pH value of about 9.5. It can chelate with metal ions. It is stable at high temperatures and decomposes into sodium phosphate and sodium pyrophosphate when burned. It is compatible with most metals, but aluminum is slightly corroded by it. Therefore, glass and ceramic containers are suitable for storage. Its aqueous solution has weak foaming properties, but it has a strong decontamination power.
Where can Sodium Tripolyphosphate Industrial Grade STPP be applied?
In industry, it is the core component of detergents. It can dissociate grease and dirt to make clothes clean, especially suitable for washing heavy oily objects; it is used as a depilatory agent in leather making to completely remove the hair from the skin and make the texture soft. In the food industry, adding it to meat can retain water and make the products fresh and juicy; adding it to canned food can prevent the flesh from becoming soft and rotten. In the papermaking industry, it is used as a sizing agent in pulp to increase the strength of paper products; in water treatment, it can be used as a water softener to reduce the hardness of water. In addition, it can be used as a dispersant in paint to evenly suspend pigments and make the coating smooth. It is used like a good soap, which can wash away all kinds of dirt and make it clean, so it is valued by all industries.
How should Sodium Tripolyphosphate Industrial Grade STPP be stored?
It should be packaged in thick plastic bags, each bag weighing 40 kilograms, with the bag mouth sealed by heat sealing and covered with a woven bag. It should be stored in a high-dry warehouse, with wooden boards on the ground to prevent moisture, and oil paper on the boards to keep the materials one foot above the ground. The stack height should not exceed seven layers to prevent the bottom layer from being compressed and agglomerated. The warehouse is equipped with a calcium chloride moisture absorption tank, and ventilation is carried out for two hours every day during the rainy season. When transporting, choose a sunny day, cover the carriage with tarpaulin, and stop to avoid rain. If it agglomerates, it can be placed in a stone mill and ground into a fine powder, and the effectiveness will not be reduced. The only thing to do is to prevent impurities from mixing into it during grinding. The way to store it is to use it quickly, otherwise the properties will change easily after long-term storage.
What is the difference between Sodium Tripolyphosphate Industrial Grade STPP and Sodium Hexametaphosphate?
Although both are sodium polyphosphates, they have different molecular structures and properties. Sodium Tripolyphosphate Industrial Grade STPP has a three-chain structure and is more alkaline; Sodium Hexametaphosphate has a multi-chain structure and is more chelating. In terms of usage, the former is more suitable for detergents and food water retention, while the latter is mostly used for water treatment and papermaking. The manufacturing methods are also different. The former is polymerized at medium temperature, while the latter requires high-temperature melting. For example, mulberry and hemp cloth can both be used to make clothes, but mulberry is soft while hemp is tough, and each has its own advantages. Users should distinguish their properties to get the right use.
